Move Over – Avoid a roadside crash when you see flashing lights

Nov 01

Every day, brave men and women put their lives on the line to keep our roads safe. From law enforcement officers to tow truck drivers, these heroes often work on the side of the road in hazardous conditions. That’s why Alabama’s Move Over Law is so important.

What is the Move Over Law?

Alabama’s Move Over Law requires drivers to:

  • Move over: When safe, change lanes to create a buffer zone between your vehicle and the roadside emergency vehicle.
  • Slow down: If moving over isn’t safe, slow down to at least 15 mph below the posted speed limit.

Why is it Important?

  • Protects Lives: By moving over or slowing down, you help protect the lives of first responders and other roadside workers.
  • Reduces Accidents: When drivers are aware and follow the law, it reduces the risk of accidents that can injure or kill both motorists and roadside workers.
  • Shows Respect: It’s a simple act of respect for those who work tirelessly to keep our roads safe.

Remember, every second counts. By following the Move Over Law, you can make a real difference.

Let’s work together to keep our roads safe for everyone.
