An Alabama Department of Transportation project to rehabilitate the bridge deck of the bridge on Alabama Highway 52 over the Chattahoochee River in Columbia into Georgia will begin Monday, November 20, weather permitting.
The project will consist of hydroblasting and rehabilitating the bridge deck to extend the life of the bridge.
Due to the nature of the project, the bridge will need to be closed to all traffic until work is complete. The bridge closure is expected to begin on Tuesday, November 28. During the closure a detour will be in place that will utilize Georgia Highway 62, Georgia Highway 370, and U.S. Highway 84. The approximately $1.3 million project was awarded American Contracting and Services, Inc., out of Jeffersonville, Indiana, who had the lowest bid that met the project requirements. The contractor anticipates reopening the bridge by the end of the year.
