The Alabama Department of Transportation painting and rehabilitation project on the Benjamin Fitzpatrick Bridge in Tallassee will have a continuous lane closure beginning Saturday, March 16 at approximately 7 a.m., weather permitting.
The contractor will be placing the bridge deck overlay at that time to complete the work needed on the bridge deck. The roadway will be closed during curing due to specific weather limitations.
The contractor will keep one lane open at all times using temporary traffic signals and flagmen.
Motorists should plan accordingly for delays from lane closures and be mindful of people working in the work zone.
To minimize disruptions to school traffic, this part of the project is being done during Tallassee City School spring break.
The continuous lane closure is expected to be in place five days from the start of work.
The contractor will have a few remaining items to complete the project, but none are intended to affect traffic.
The temporary traffic signals will stay installed until the project is complete in case they are needed.
The project began March 2023 with an expected 16 months till completion. The project is on track to be completed in that estimated time frame.
