The Alabama Department of Transportation anticipates work starting next week to improve the intersection of US-411/Rainbow Drive and Whorton Bend Road in Gadsden.

Wiregrass Construction will extend the left turn lane on US-411 southbound and construct a dedicated right turn lane on Whorton Bend Road to US-411 northbound.

The $347,000 project also includes traffic signal upgrades. The contractor will install new signal poles during the first phase of work.

Project funding comes from the Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program-II (ATRIP-II). The Rebuild Alabama Act created ATRIP-II to advance projects of local interest on state routes. Local sponsor Etowah County provided matching funds.
