Two new roundabouts are coming to Mountain Brook Village to help with traffic congestion.

The project is happening right in the middle of Birmingham and Mountain Brook city limits at the intersection of the US-280 off ramp, Cahaba Road, Chester Road, and Lane Park Road near the Birmingham Zoo.

Because it straddles the two cities, they’re both contributing 10% to the overall price while the remaining 80% is federally funded through the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT). The project will decrease congestion and frustration while keeping traffic moving.

This project has been in the works for nearly 10 years, and because of inflation, the estimated cost increased from $3.6 million to $4.2-$4.4 million. The city of Mountain Brook plans to bid the project in August and start construction in October. Construction will last 10 to 12 months but most of the work will be at night to have minimum impact on businesses and drivers.
