The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) marked a major infrastructure milestone with a ceremony celebrating the completion of the US-82 project from SR-69 to Rice Mine Road in Tuscaloosa County on Friday, Jan. 31 at Indian Hills Country Club.
This marked the first major Rebuild Alabama Act project in Tuscaloosa County.
Governor Kay Ivey, State Senator Gerald Allen, State Senator Bobby Singleton, Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox and Northport Mayor John Hinton spoke at the event, while additional local and state officials were in attendance.
The US-82 roadway now features an additional travel lane in each direction, improved access to businesses and a shared-use path for bicyclists and pedestrians. Proceeds from the state gas tax funded the $33.91 million project.
“This project will foster growth, support businesses and improve the quality of life for the Alabamians that call Tuscaloosa and Northport home,” Ivey said. “We can’t have economic development without infrastructure, and every dollar we invest in it pays dividends. Thanks to the Rebuild Alabama Act, this is just one of many projects transforming the way Alabama families work, travel and live across our state.”
