The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is replacing the existing bridge with a modern, safer structure. The $78.8 million project is being built by the general contractor Scott Bridge Construction Co., LLC and is expected to take approximately two years.

Permits and designs have been finalized, enabling the project to proceed without delay.

The new bridge will feature a dedicated pedestrian bridge and bicycle path, which is being included to improve accessibility and encourage alternative transportation. The structure itself is designed to withstand elements and enhance safety for all users.

Foundation Work in Progress

Currently, construction crews are focused on laying the foundation. This critical phase will support the weight of the new bridge as well as ensure its long-term durability.

Piles, or drilled shafts, are being installed deep into the ground to provide a strong base. Once those are in place, concrete is poured to form the foundation.

Next Steps: Vertical Construction Foundation Work in Progress

Following foundation work, construction will shift to the bridge’s vertical elements. Concrete piers and abutments will be built to support the bridge deck. Then, concrete beams will be set in place to span the supports, forming the core of the structure. After that, the concrete deck will be reinforced and poured.

Final Stages Before Opening

As the product nears completion, finishing touches such as paving, striping, lighting and guardrails will be added to improve safety and visibility.

After all inspections have been completed, the bridge will be open to traffic. This upgrade is expected to enhance safety, improve traffic flow and offer a more accessible route for vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians.

More updates will be shared as work progresses.
