ALDOT monitoring forecasts ahead of potential winter weather

Jan 16

The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is closely monitoring weather forecasts from the National Weather Service and other sources to track a weather disturbance that has the potential to bring winter weather to parts of Alabama over the weekend.

ALDOT is preparing for cold temperatures as well as the possibility of frozen precipitation in some parts of the state. ALDOT is actively preparing equipment and personnel in advance of any potential impacts to be able to better deploy resources effectively and efficiently.

In preparation for potential ice or snow, ALDOT is:

  • Checking and preparing equipment: This includes ensuring trucks, tanks, sprayers and spreaders are in working order and stockpiles of salt, sand and de-icing materials are readily available.
  • Briefing personnel: Maintenance crews across the state are being briefed on potential weather scenarios and deployment procedures.
  • Coordinating with partner agencies: ALDOT will continue to work closely with other state and local agencies to coordinate response efforts.
