Several Alabama Department of Transportation operations will take place on I-65 in north Alabama this week, including hot mix pothole patching, guardrail repairs, and core sampling. ALDOT is planning these operations for the middle of the week to limit lane closures to off-peak travel hours on the days anticipated to have the lightest traffic volume.

Patching/paving

Tuesday, ALDOT will pave from mile marker 319 north of Lacon to mile marker 320 south of Falkville from 8 a.m. to about 3 p.m. to repair potholes resulting from January’s winter storm. ALDOT has been using an area paving crew to make long, hot-mix asphalt patches.

Please expect single-lane closures and delays.

Guardrail

Crews will also repair guardrail on I-65 in Cullman County. Lane closures won’t be necessary for cable barrier system repairs Tuesday between Exit 305 at CR-222 in Good Hope and Exit 310 at SR-157 in Cullman. However, crews will close the inside lane of I-65 southbound from mile marker 315 to mile marker 313 near Vinemont on Wednesday from about 8 a.m. to about 2 p.m. to repair damaged cable and guardrail that was struck during a crash Friday.

Coring

Also, a drill crew will continue collecting samples in preparation for a future resurfacing project. Tuesday, they will drill on-ramps and off-ramps on the southbound roadway between Exit 334 at SR-67 in Priceville and Exit 318 at US-31 at Lacon. Wednesday, the drill crew will work northbound on I-65.

Please remain aware that although every effort is made to limit operations to off-peak travel times, closures may extend later than initially expected.
