Starting this Monday, October 14, construction will begin to install two new roundabouts in Pike Road.  These roundabouts will be installed at the intersections of SR-126 and US-80 and Marler Road and US-80.

This project is a joint effort between the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) and the Town of Pike Road.

Mayor Gordon Stone said, “The beginning of the construction phase of the SR-126 and US-80 roundabout project is great news for the Town of Pike Road as we move onward toward a future filled with opportunity.  Projects of this type provide great momentum and tremendous possibilities for the citizens of the Town. We thank the Alabama Department of Transportation for their support and partnership on this project.”

Roundabouts have proven to be effective in enhancing road safety and reducing traffic congestion. According to the Federal Highway Administration, roundabouts typically result in a 35 percent decrease in all crashes, a 76 percent reduction in injuries, and a more than 90 percent decrease in fatalities.

Motorists should anticipate lane closures and reduced speed limits during construction. ALDOT urges drivers to plan accordingly for delays and stay mindful of people and equipment in the work zone.

CB&A Construction, LLC of Birmingham was awarded the $4.9 million contract for the project as the lowest bidder meeting all requirements. The project is expected to be completed in spring 2026.
