Thousands of drivers are already benefiting from the Alabama Department of Transportation’s (ALDOT) latest infrastructure upgrade: the recently completed widening of I-10 in Mobile County.

This major project added a third lane to approximately 5 miles in both the eastbound and westbound directions between Carol Plantation Road and McDonald Road. The extra lanes are designed to improve traffic flow and increase safety along this crucial corridor.

Funded through the Rebuild Alabama Act, the $24.8 million project addresses the high traffic demands of a stretch that sees about 65,000 vehicles daily. The additional lanes bring the interstate to six lanes total, easing congestion and reducing travel times, especially during peak hours.

“This project represents a critical investment in our transportation infrastructure,” said ALDOT Southwest Region spokesperson James Gordon. “The widened I-10 will enhance connectivity, promote economic growth, and improve quality of life.”

The I-10 expansion underscores ALDOT’s commitment to safer, more efficient travel for Alabama’s residents, visitors, and commercial traffic supporting Alabama businesses and industries.
